Troubleshooting

Usage Notes

  1. The Pirani gauge is a vacuum gauge that uses the thermal conduction of gases, so the pressure display varies depending on the gas type.
The gauge is calibrated with nitrogen or air. If the inside of the vacuum chamber contains other gas or mixed gas, the conversion is required.
  2. ULVAC Pirani vacuum gauge uses the amount of power change that maintains the filament at a constant temperature, so even if the pressure is the same, the indicated value is affected by the ambient temperature.
  3. Since the gauge head cable is also part of the circuit, changing the length of the cable will change the resistance value of the circuit, which changes the indicated value. (However, this does not apply to devices with a detection unit circuit on the sensor side.)
  4. Since the filament is a thin metal wire, vibration or shock may disconnect the filament.

Trouble check lists

1. The meter needle does not deflect when power is turned ON
2. Even if the pressure is changed, the meter needle remains deflected off-scale to the right ( or to the left)
3. The pressure indication does not exceed 3k Pa when atmospheric pressure is measured
4. The needle vibrates and does not indicate a constant value

1. The meter needle does not deflect when power is turned ON

Causes Solutions
Fuse has burnt out Replace the fuse

2. Even if the pressure is changed, the meter needle remains deflected off-scale to the right ( or to the left)

Causes Solutions
Filament of the sensor head has burnt out Replace the sensor head
Sensor head cable is disconnected Replace the sensor head cable
Sensor head and sensor head cable are not connected to the controller Connect the sensor head and the sensor head cable

3. The pressure indication does not exceed 3k Pa when atmospheric pressure is measured

Causes Solutions
Sensor head and the length of sensor head cable differ from the specified one Change it with a specified one, or recalibrate with the one currently in use
Gas under measurement is not air nor nitrogen Normal but must be recalibrated with the gas being measured
The measuring environment contains a lot of water and oil Normal, but replace the sensor head and remove oil
The sensor head is contaminated or its filament has worn out Replace the sensor head

4. The needle vibrates and does not indicate a constant value

Causes Solutions
The sensor head is contaminated or its filament has worn out Replace the sensor head
The sensor head cable does not connect Replace the sensor head cable
The power supply voltage is not within the range of 100 V ± 10% Review power supply voltage
The leak in the sensor head or in the area where the sensor head is installed Replace the sensor head, or repair the leak
